‘Madame Butterfly’ tickets go on sale this week
Tickets for High Desert Opera’s production of Puccini’s tragic opera, “Madame Butterfly,” will go on sale Monday, June 30.
There will be two performances of the opera. The first will be at 7 p.m. July 26, and the second will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 2. Both will be performed at Robinson Theatre in Colorado Mesa University’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.
Tickets cost $19–$39, and senior and youth discounts are available. Bargain tickets cost $10.
Tickets can be purchased at Roper Music on the corner of Fifth Street and Rood Ave., at highdesertopera.org or by calling 523-9605 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets prices at the door will be slightly higher.
Big winners at 42nd annual Edge of Cedars Art Show
The 42nd annual Edge of the Cedars Art Show was on display earlier in June in Cedaredge.
Results of the judging included:
■ Peoples Choice: Marty Rathburn, Cedaredge, professional watercolor, “The Buffalo Hunter.”
■ Judge’s Best of Show: Dale Russell Smith, Cedaredge, professional watercolor, “Hung Out to Dry.”
■ Best of Professional: Cindy Brabec-King, Palisade, watercolor, “Good Morning Sunshine.”
■ Best of Advanced: Sheryl Williams, Delta, watercolor, “Beauty and the Beast.”
■ Best of Amateur: Sharon Hutchings, Grand Junction, watercolor, “Morning Etude.”
■ Best of Student: Lane Sanders, Delta, graphic, “Captain Jack.”
A number of other special awards were given in several classes and by sponsors.
Silversmith featured artist at High Peaks Art Festival
Enamelist, jewelry designer and silversmith Julie Glassman of Grand Junction is the featured artist at the High Peaks Art Festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday, June 28–29, in Nederland.
It is the 10th year Glassman has participated in the show.
The juried festival features nearly 45 artists with works in all media including painting, photography, jewelry, fiber, glass, metal, wood and mixed media fine craft.

Two-day workshop for collage at The Art Center
The Rocky Mountain Collage Society will present a two-day workshop in collage taught by nationally award-winning artist Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson.
The workshop will be Sept. 6–7 at The Art Center.
Cost is $250 for society members and $285 nonmembers. Space is limited. The deadline to register is Tuesday, July 1, and requires a $100 deposit. After July 1, those interested will be placed on a waiting list.
