Family Health West picks CEO
Family Health West is welcoming Mark J. Francis as the hospital’s new chief executive officer as current President and CEO Dennis Ficklin prepares to retire.
Ficklin will remain the Fruita hospital’s president until his retirement late this fall. Ficklin said Francis’ appointment this spring will help the hospital transfer leadership more smoothly later this year.
“My role will be to work closely with Mark and he will work closely with the organization. It makes for an orderly transition,” Ficklin said.
Francis served as president and chief executive officer of Community Hospital from 2003 to 2006, when he started Francis Management and became the owner’s representative for Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado as it developed a new inpatient campus and refurbished the Miller Homestead.
Francis has worked as a consultant for Family Health West since 2008 and served most recently as the hospital’s vice president of outpatient services.
“I am extremely honored and humbled at the appointment of chief executive officer,” Francis said in a press release.
Ficklin has worked at Family Health West for 29 years, first as a controller in the financial department, then as executive director in 1993, a position that became the president and chief executive job.
Ficklin said he has seen Family Health West grow from a long-term care facility to a hospital with 60 to 65 percent occupancy most days and some 440 employees.
He said he feels confident about the direction of the hospital and its administration.
“Our focus is at the level of services we provide, to be as patient- and customer-minded as possible. Mark has that buy-in to the organization. He understands patients and their needs. We feel the transition will be smooth,” he said.
