Farm fire near Collbran destroys equipment

An early morning fire at a farm northeast of Collbran consumed a shed and destroyed farm equipment valued at roughly $180,000, according to Mike Harvey, chief of the Plateau Valley Fire District.

Harvey said crew responded to the fire around 5 a.m. Sunday after a passer-by noticed the shed at 60048 Buzzard Creek Road was on fire.

By the time the crews arrived, Harvey said, the shed was fully engulfed — “a total loss” — and the fire had damaged three cars parked nearby.

Harvey said the fire did not burn the home on the property, which was “quite far away” from the shed.

Harvey said the fire is the second shed or garage fire in two days inside his district.
