UPDATE: Hunter killed in ATV accident near De Beque

A Mesa County man was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident this morning while he was hunting near De Beque, authorities said.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said the man was with family members near South Dry Fork Road northwest of town when the ATV flipped on top of him and pinned him around 11:45 a.m.

Firefighters from the De Beque Fire Department responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will identify the man and perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death.
