FedEx building bigger facility west of airport

McCauley Constructors, based in Windsor, broke ground recently on a $3 million FedEx shipping facility west of the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

The building should open in September, said Nancy James, business development coordinator for McCauley Constructors.

The 25,000-square-foot building will be an express-package-handling facility that will replace the Grand Junction FedEx facility. It will house a packing center, offices and customer-pickup center that will serve the Western Slope.

A majority of the subcontractors for the project will be from Grand Junction, James said.

This is the third FedEx building McCauley Constructors is the general contractor for. The others are in Englewood and Colorado Springs.

McCauley Constructors plans to open a branch in Grand Junction this summer or fall. In addition to the FedEx facility, it’s working on the George T. Sander warehouse building in Rifle.

“We’re just kind of venturing out in that direction,” James said.
