Feel picky? Come get free peaches
Alaina Lawson, top and Mahalia Odom pick free peachs at Rancho Fruita.Don and Marilyn Schanaman bought the 8-acre orchard at 3415 C 1/2 Road on east Orchard Mesa, formerly called Rancho Fruita, in late April. They weren’t able to do spring maintenance on the peaches and ended up with a crop of seconds that packers aren’t willing to buy. Instead of letting the fruit go to waste, the Schanaman’s are letting the public pick the fruit for free. Pickers are welcome from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday while supplies last. There is a five box maximum limit per family. Take boxes and pick at your own risk. Some ladders are available . Donations are appreciated.
