Film about Thanos Johnson’s works focus of next Second Saturday program

A detailed look at topics of interest in the realm of visual and narrative arts is the purpose of the Second Saturday program presented from 2–4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

The program will focus on Thanos Johnson ... Art, Nature, Life and will feature a film about Johnson’s life followed by a gallery talk with Jane Johnson and The Art Center’s artist-in-residence Terry Shepherd.

The Art Center also will display ceramic works created by Johnson, who was not only an artist, but also an educator and scholar.

According to a news release, Johnson (1922–2004) gained inspiration for his artwork from numerous life experiences. Time spent with the 10th Mountain Division and visits with friends and colleagues in Japan and Korea were all a part of his inspiration. Johnson also is remembered for his storytelling and his ability to connect with people.

Second Saturday is free and open to the public.
