Fire destroys home on D 3/4 Road

An early-morning fire destroyed a home at 237 D 3/4 Road early Sunday.

The Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at 1:43 a.m. Sunday.

The first firefighters on the scene indicated that the house was engulfed in flames. No working fire or smoke detectors were in the home.

Three brothers were home at the time of the fire. One woke to the fire and alerted the others. All three men and two dogs escaped with no injuries.

One of the men uses oxygen on a regular basis and was unable to bring his tank when he left the home. He was treated and released on the scene.

Damage was estimated to be $100,000. The home and its contents are considered a total loss.

Acting Battalion Chief Doug Walsh said Sunday evening that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
