More than 500 residents in the Molina area received messages on telephones Tuesday they may have to evacuate after a fire started in Bull Basin.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department the pre-evacuation notice was sent to homes in a 5-mile radius around 51755 KE Road. The fire was burning on about 20 acres of private land approximately one mile southwest of Molina.

“No one has been evacuated at this time, however residents living within the radius should be prepared to leave immediately should an evacuation be needed because of the growth of the fire,” according to a statement by the Sheriff’s Department.

The Department recommends that anyone living or working in Mesa County sign up to receive emergency alerts on their cell phones. To register, visit http://www.gjcity.org and click on the link near the bottom of the page.
