Fire meeting set tonight in Norwood

Officials will host a meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at Norwood Town Hall, 1670 Naturita St., about a fire that has burned 3,200 acres in the area.

Rain and snow overnight Sunday and Monday helped firefighters battling the Beaver Fire.  It was still burning Monday evening.

Firefighters built a line around the fire Monday as winds decreased and the temperature dropped from the day before, according to a news release from the Bureau of Land Management. The release said the fire burned 700 acres of BLM land and 2,500 acres of the Uncompahgre National Forest.

Downed power lines sparked the fire Saturday afternoon close to the Montrose County line, according to the BLM.

No homes or other structures have burned and no one has been injured or evacuated from the area, aside from two small campsites, according to the BLM.

Residents can call 240-1070 for fire updates.
