Food donations accepted at concerts

At its upcoming concerts, the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra will be collecting food donations for the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies and the Totes for Hope program.

Donated items can be taken to the symphony office, 225 N. Fifth St., Suite 120, from Tuesday, March 2, through April 6. Food also will be collected at the March 27 children’s concert and the April 1 “Stravinsky: Firebird” concert.

The Totes for Hope program gives schoolchildren a tote or backpack filled with food for the weekend. The program reaches 1,2000 children in the Grand Valley, according to the symphony.

The symphony’s efforts are part of the League of American Orchestras’ project Orchestras Feeding America in which orchestras across the country combat hunger in their communities.
