Foreclosures fall in Mesa County

Foreclosure filings and sales dipped in Mesa County last month compared to May 2010, a sign that the real estate market is continuing its slow rebound.

May filings dropped 4 percent, from 96 to 92, while sales fell 37 percent, from 90 to 57, according to a report issued today by the Colorado Division of Housing. The 37 percent drop was the second-largest among the 12 most populated counties in Colorado.

Compared to April, the number of filings in the county held steady at 92, while sales plummeted 34 percent, from 86 to 57.

Year-to-date, there have been a total of 451 foreclosure filings, which marks the beginning of the foreclosure process. That’s down 30 percent compared to the first five months of last year. Foreclosure sales, which represent the completion of the foreclosure process, are down nearly 8 percent, from 441 to 407.
