Forest Service keeps roads closed because of snowpack
The U.S. Forest Service announced several roads in the Grand Mesa and Uncompahgre National Forests will remain closed to wide vehicles until the snow clears and road conditions improve.
The closures apply to vehicles wider than 50 inches, excluding snowmobiles.
The Forest Service also announced firewood permits are on sale. Permits can be purchased for $10 per cord with a two-cord minimum requirement. The maximum limit is 10 cords per household per year.
Forest Service officials say some roads at lower elevations are open, allowing access to firewood.
Snow levels and seasonal road closures may limit full access to cutting areas until mid-June in some areas.
Residents should contact local district offices to find out what roads are open before venturing out.
