Former chief still on job hunt
After missing out recently on jobs in Washington and Montana, former Grand Junction Police Chief Bill Gardner said he’s waiting to hear back on two more job applications.
Gardner, 61, declined to identify where else he is seeking police chief jobs, but said he applied to an agency in Colorado and another outside the state.
Gardner said he’s out of the running for jobs in Bozeman, Mont., and Redmond, Wash., but officials in both communities Friday said Gardner is still considered a finalist for their jobs.
“Bozeman wasn’t a fit, and Redmond didn’t work out as well, but I’m going to find my next place,” Gardner said.
“I’ve still got a lot passion left to help make things right in a community, and I’m thrilled with what’s going on in Grand Junction with John Camper,” he said.
A 33-year law enforcement veteran, Gardner resigned from the Grand Junction Police Department last July after leading the agency for four years.
