Free JUCO ticket to those who donate blood
The St. Mary’s Blood Center is asking baseball fans to “Step up to the plate and donate” by offering a free ticket to one game of the Junior College World Series to all those who donate during through June 1.
This is the second year that the blood center and JUCO have partnered to support those who need blood due to accident, surgery, and cancer at hospitals across Western Colorado.
The center received more than 4,000 tickets Tuesday.
Susan Brian, supervisor of the blood center, said that already the response to the special blood drive has been “steady, and fairly good.”
High school students are especially excited about the tickets. A number of blood drives at area high schools are scheduled before the end of the school year. “If we get them started early, we hope they will donate their whole lives,” Brian said.
The center plans to have the Blood Mobile available at Stocker Stadium during the games for those wanting to earn a free ticket.
Blood can be donated once every eight weeks and platelets can be taken every four weeks.
The center is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Photo identification is required. For information, call 298-2555.
