Fruita Middle school PTA raising funds for new security door

Fruita Middle School Parent-Teacher Association members are about a fifth of the way to their goal of raising $10,000 for a new security door at the school and hope to creep closer to that goal at a fundraiser June 1.

The fundraiser will offer four inflatable water slides for kids, with one dedicated to kids 4 and under, and two for adults for a suggested donation of $6 per person or $20 for a family of four or more people. The slides will be donated by Willy Wanna Jump Party Rentals. James Williams has volunteered to DJ the event. Cotton candy and snow cones will be available and there’s a possibility the event will feature a dunk tank, complete with Fruita Middle School Principal Brig Leane as a volunteer for dunking.

The fundraiser will take place between
1 p.m. and 4 p.m. June 1 at Fruita Middle School, 239 N. Maple St.

Fruita PTA Treasurer Leslie Canup said the group has raised about $2,000 since they began collecting for the security door this spring. The door will cordon off the school entryway and lobby area from the rest of the school to allow people at the school office to sign people in before unlocking the door to allow them to enter the rest of the school.

The association hopes to have the door installed by the start of the 2014-15 school year but the timing of installation will depend on how soon funding can be raised.

“If not (by the start of school), hopefully we can get it going by fall break,” Canup said.
Donations for the project can be sent to Fruita Middle School, 239 N. Maple St., Fruita, CO 81521.
