Fruitvale death probed as suspicious
Authorities say the death of a man whose body was found Monday morning inside a Fruitvale apartment is suspicious but were otherwise being tight-lipped about their investigation.
An individual called 911 at 6:20 a.m. after finding the body at the Diamond Terrace apartments, 540 29 Road, Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Mary Gonzales said. The body was found inside Unit 6.
Gonzales declined to say whether the person who found the body was a man or a woman or release any other information about the man’s death, citing an ongoing investigation.
Mark Taylor, who lives across the street at 536 29 Road, said he arrived home from a nightclub about 1 a.m. and awakened hours later to find patrol cars and emergency vehicles at the apartment complex. He said a young couple in their mid-20s live in the apartment and have a history of fighting and arguing with each other.
Taylor said he watched investigators work most of the day and that they removed several items from the apartment, including a laptop and paper bags filled with household items. He said family and friends arrived at the apartment early in the morning, including the woman who lives at the apartment, but that no arrests were made.
“There was definitely some very bad juju that happened up there,” he said.
A couple of Sheriff’s Department volunteers stood guard at the apartment complex throughout the day. Investigators hung a blue tarp in front of the second-story apartment, blocking the view inside.
