Future of Matchett Park topic of Thursday discussion

Community input is critical for a second open house on Thursday discussing the future of Matchett Park. Grand Junction Parks and Recreation staff have drawn up preliminary designs based on a first meeting, which attracted nearly 200 residents and gathered online comments from 1,189 people. The results of the comments from Thursday and ensuing online comments will be drawn up and residents can further fine tune their visions for the park.

City staff will design a conceptual plan for the park to be released March 11.

Project Manager Traci Wieland said community input to date has been active. Park and recreation officials are hosting back-to-back presentations in an attempt to handle a greater number of residents.

Thursday’s open house begins at 4 p.m. Presentations start at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. at Faith Heights Church, 600 28 1/4 Road.

Commenting on the plans also will be available online by next week. To comment, go to gjcity.org and search for Matchett Park Master Plan under City Spotlight. Subscribe to an email newsletter at http://www.tiny.cc/gjpr.
