Get in on ‘Sister Trails’ act with informational open house, cleanup

It’s doubtful Spanish Fathers Dominguez and Escalante used mountain bikes to travel the Old Spanish Trail during their 1776 expedition.

Hey, they probably didn’t call it the “Old Spanish Trail,” either.

Today, bikers, hikers, joggers, dog walkers and horse riders are just some of the many activities of those using the popular “Sister Trails” system including the Gunnison Bluffs Trail.

With all that love, several local groups are hosting a meeting tonight to discuss preserving the trails’ ambience and retaining their “quiet scenery.”

Tonight is your chance to voice support for the trails’ future, and Saturday’s cleanup day offers the opportunity to give the trails some hands-on attention.

You might find that chain sprocket Father Escalante dropped in 1776.
