Get ready for cross-country skiing with annual work day

The annual maintenance day for Grand Mesa Nordic ski trails is Saturday, starting at Skyway Trail.

The signs of coming winter are all around.

There is fresh snow on the Ruby Range above Kebler Pass, elk are bugling along Dallas Divide, and the Grand Mesa Nordic Council is sprucing up its trail system.

The Nordic Council holds its annual work day on Saturday, cutting brush and clearing branches.

There’s no better time to meet other flat-track skiers and share a little sweat equity readying for a winter’s worth of fun.

And it’s the rare day when you don’t have to wax first before going out on the trails.

WHAT: Annual maintenance day for Grand Mesa Nordic ski trails.

WHEN: Starting 10 a.m. Saturday.

WHERE: Volunteers meet at the Skyway Trail parking lot. Bring gloves, clippers, lunch and water.
