GJ man accused of giving pot to minors

David Long

Grand Junction police arrested a man last week on allegations he repeatedly provided marijuana to juvenile girls and boys at his home.

David Long, 61, of Grand Junction, was booked at Mesa County Jail on suspicion of four counts of felony dispensing marijuana to a minor under age 15, as well as four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Long was booked Wednesday and has since posted bond.

Police opened an investigation this summer after the parents of a 13-year-old girl contacted authorities when the girl disclosed she’d allegedly been offered marijuana three times by Long, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to the document, the 13-year-old girl told detectives she’s seen Long give marijuana to another juvenile girl about eight times. Detectives later interviewed a 15-year-old boy, who claimed Long had also provided pot to him and his brother.

Long said he had a valid medical-marijuana license and adamantly denied he was giving pot to the juveniles, according to the affidavit.
