Christipher Baker

A Grand Junction man was arrested Friday in connection with the death of a Clifton man last weekend.

Christipher Baker, 27, was jailed on a warrant for suspicion of second-degree murder and false reporting to authorities, in connection with the Nov. 2 death of 30-year-old Matthew Wilkerson, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said.

Wilkerson was found unresponsive at 517 Pauline St. after authorities were called to the home around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 2.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office said the death was ruled homicide by strangulation.

Baker was arrested Friday afternoon without incident.

Records in the case have been filed under seal and an investigation remains active, the sheriff’s office said.

Police clarified that the unusual spelling of Baker’s first name — Christipher — is his legal name. They added, though, that an alias used by him — Christopher Lee Baker — utilizes the traditional spelling of his first name.
