BrassFest 2013 at Colorado Mesa University will conclude at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, with a guest artist solo horn recital performed by Gregory Hustis.

The concert will be in the Recital Hall of the Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.

Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students. Call 248-1604 for information.

Gregory Hustis, principal horn emeritus with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, will join the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra in its Classics Concert performance “House of Habsburg” featuring music by Austrian composers Johannes Brahms and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Grand Junction High School auditorium, 1400 N. Fifth St.

Wikipedia explains that “The House of Habsburg, also known as House of Austria, is one of the most important royal houses of Europe and is best known for being an origin of all of the formally elected Holy Roman Emperors between 1438 and 1740, as well as rulers of the Austrian Empire and Spanish Empire and several other countries.”

Brahms (1833–1897) spent much of his professional life in Vienna, Austria, and Mozart (1756–1791) was born in Salzburg, Austria.

Hustis and the symphony will present “Tragic Overture” and “Symphony No. 2” by Brahms and “Horn Concerto No. 4” by Mozart.

Hustis has been a “solo artist with the Utah, Knoxville and Dallas symphonies and the Dallas, Latvian, Northwest Chamber and Sarasota orchestras,” according to the concert notes at gjsymphony.org.

“He has served as a faculty member at Southern Methodist University, a member of the advisory council for the International Horn Society, and as the artistic director of chamber music at the Music in the Mountain Festival in Durango.”

Tickets cost $15–$25 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at gjsymphony.org, by calling 243-6787 or at the symphony office in the Alpine Bank building, 225 N. Fifth St., Suite 120.
