GJ council picks Coons as mayor

Teresa Coons

Teresa Coons and Bonnie Beckstein were elected unanimously to serve as Grand Junction mayor and mayor pro tem, respectively, during Wednesday’s Grand Junction City Council meeting.

The City Council selects a mayor and mayor pro tem every year during its first regular meeting in May.

Coons has served two previous terms as mayor pro tem. She will serve until the May meeting in 2011.

Beckstein, a previous mayor pro tem, will serve for the same amount of time.

The two were voted in after City Council members requested nominations and took a vote.

Both were sworn in, and Coons took over the mayoral duty of running the meeting from Bruce Hill.
