GJEP announces video contest winners
The Grand Junction Economic Partnership launched an outdoor video contest this summer in an effort to attract outdoor companies to the Grand Valley.
“So many of the outdoor companies are here because they were born here and there’s a credibility in being from Colorado,” said Kelly Flenniken, executive director.
But, in order to attract new outdoor businesses to the region, Flenniken said, GJEP needs to show businesses that people live here because they play here.
“There was a real purpose in mind by showcasing the way people play,” Flenniken said, “and that was attracting outdoor industry.”
GJEP asked “What do you do when you play outside?” They received 29 video entries showing a wide variety of outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, and snowboarding.
The grand prize winner is Ethan Bell. His video, “Ethan’s Powderhorn Ski Season Collaboration,” showcases his extreme skiing tricks set to the hip hop song, “Beggin” by Logic. It does contain mildly explicit lyrics.
There was a tie for second place between Sarah Mah Withers and John David.
Withers video, “Chickita Palisade Rim 11222011,” showcases women’s mountain biking.
David shot a clever story line following his son through a variety of outdoor sports which highlights his musical talent.
The winners will receive GoPro Hero video cameras.
Flenniken said footage will be compiled from all of the submitted entries to form a branding and marketing video that will help attract more outdoor industry to the valley.
“It’s really going to help us showcase the wide variety of recreational offerings we have,” she said.
All of the entries are available for viewing at the Grand Junction Economic Partnership Facebook page.
