Glenwood Hot Springs offers free soak in pool to weary highway crew

A Glenwood Springs business this week offered highway crews the chance to recharge their bodies after working to reopen Interstate 70 traffic through Glenwood Canyon this week.

The Glenwood Hot Springs Pool offered free soaks to Colorado Department of Transportation workers and their project consultants, Rock Solid Solutions and Yeh & Associates.

After major rockfall early Monday that closed I-70, highway crews removed more rocks from the hillside above and cleared and repaired the highway so that one-lane travel could be restored Thursday in each direction.

“With so much pressure on them to get the canyon open quickly and with the cold temperatures and the physically hard work, the Glenwood Hot Springs wants to let CDOT workers know how much their efforts are appreciated,” Kjell Mitchell, chief operating officer for the Glenwood Hot Springs, said in a news release.

Glenwood Springs tourism businesses were pleased to see the traffic restored in time for this weekend, when many Front Range residents on spring break were expected to visit.
