Grand Junction Chamber sponsors trip to China
The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce is escorting some 40 area residents to China for a 10-day trip that will include business meetings and sightseeing.
Chamber President Diane Schwenke said this is the first international trip the chamber has organized.
The participants left Monday and will return April 16. Businesses represented include Shaw Construction, City Market and Grand Mesa.
While in China participants will travel to four cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, and will get the chance to visit a foreign trade zone.
The chamber teamed up with Citslinc International, which has scheduled meetings for participants that target their individual industry sectors, Schwenke said, adding, “For some of these people, it’s just an opportunity to visit a country.”
Joe Burtard works for Ute Water Conservancy District public relations, but this is a personal trip for him.
It’s his first trip abroad, and he said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, especially to travel with people from the community. He is excited to have the benefits of Citslinc to plan the trip.
“You see a lot of China in a very few days,” Burtard said.
