Grand Junction man jailed on suspicion of murder

A Grand Junction man was arrested today in connection with the death of a Clifton man last weekend.

Christipher Baker, 27, was jailed on a warrant for suspicion of second-degree murder and false reporting to authorities, in connection the Nov. 2 death of 30-year-old Matthew Wilkerson, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said today.

Wilkerson was found unresponsive at 517 Pauline Street after authorities were called to the home around 9:30 a.m. last Saturday. The death was ruled homicide by strangulation.

Baker was arrested without incident this afternoon.

Records in the case have been filed under seal and an investigation remains active, the sheriff’s office said.
