Grand Valley blanks Central soccer team
Central took more shots, but Grand Valley was the team putting them in the net as the Cardinals defeated the Warriors 2-0 in nonleague girls soccer Tuesday at Grand Valley.
Lauren Paskett scored during the 17th minute, Hanna Cornelius scored in the 38th minute for Grand Valley (6-1), and goalkeeper Desi McGee made five saves to post the shutout.
“We put a lot of pressure on and took a lot of shots. We just couldn’t find the back of the net,” Central coach Jacob Pingel said.
Goalie Marisa Brown made four saves for the Warriors(1-6-1).
Delta used a hot offense to put away Steamboat Springs 21-7 in five innings.
Braving the cold temperatures, Delta’s Tyler Sandoval drove in five runs, going 3 for 3. Derek Horn had two RBI for the Panthers.
Delta (8-2) took an 8-3 lead after two innings, then used an eight-run fourth to pull away from the Sailors.
Weather conditions forced the second game of the doubleheader to be postponed. No make-up date was announced,
■ The game between Grand Junction and Central was postponed. A makeup date will be decided today.
■ Fruita Monument’s game at Montrose was postponed. The teams will try to play at 4 p.m. today.
■ Grand Valley’s game against Coal Ridge was postponed. A makeup date has not been set.
The Eagle Valley Invitational tournament was postponed. Eagle Valley will try to reschedule it and tentatively is looking at April 29.
Grand Junction’s game at Glenwood Springs was postponed. The teams will try to make up the game at 4 p.m. today.
Fruita Monument’s dual at Montrose was postponed to April 17.
