Grand Junction business owner gives away 300 holiday meals
Gathering family to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and create holiday memories is priceless, but for some people, finding the money to buy that meal can be a burden.
“Now I have enough to get some whipped cream,” said Paddy Fletcher with a smile as she accepted a free Thanksgiving dinner from Jeremy Gerlach, owner of RBW Inc. in Grand Junction.
Gerlach and his employees gave away 300 large turkeys, boxed stuffing, dried potatoes and gravy, and cans of corn Tuesday afternoon.
RBW Inc., 2458 Industrial Blvd., is a full metal-fabrication company that creates a variety of parts for gas pipelines.
“We did well this year, and it’s not going to break our bank to give away a few turkeys,” Gerlach said.
It’s a gesture much appreciated by those who came to get a free bird.
Fletcher plans to have nine people at her dinner table this year.
“We were talking about how we were going to pitch in for it all, and I was on my way to the store when I heard about this. It’s terrific,” she said.
Christopher and Jacy Guy came to collect the meal for a family they know is in need this holiday season.
“We’re trying to get a bunch of stuff together for them, including Christmas stuff,” Christopher said.
This is the second year that RBW Inc. has sponsored the giveaway. Last year, the company gave away 250 turkeys, Gerlach said. This year, they decided to give the whole meal.
“We’re getting more organized,” Gerlach said. “I just really enjoy giving them to anybody who needs one.”
