Grand Junction to get new hotels north of F and 24 roads
Work has begun on a four-story Candlewood Suites hotel north of 24 and F roads at 654 Market St.
The 52,699-square-foot hotel will have 97 rooms and 112 parking spaces. The Koehler Organization, based in Aberdeen, S.D., is developing the hotel, which should be complete in 10 months to a year, according to John Koehler, one of the company’s developers.
The Candlewood Suites will be east of Market Street and north of F 1/2 Road. Koehler said his company plans to build a Hilton Garden Inn north of F 1/2 Road but south of the Candlewood Suites building. A start date has not been set for construction of the Hilton Garden Inn, which would be four stories high and have 120 rooms, 151 parking spaces and a conference center. Koehler said work will not begin on the Hilton until after the Candlewood structure is complete.
Koehler said the organization decided to locate two hotels in Grand Junction because it is familiar with the local market as owner of the city’s Holiday Inn Express west of 24 Road and north of F Road. Koehler said Grand Junction’s economy isn’t looking great yet, but “we’re sure hoping” the city will boom again.
“We’re staying positive,” he said.
There are 266 Candlewood Suites locations worldwide, including seven in Colorado, and there were another 151 in the works as of March, according to the hotel’s website. Parachute has the closest Candlewood Suites to Grand Junction.
The hotel will join a growing list of developments near the intersection of 24 and F roads. Firestone Complete Auto, 607 24 Road, and Crossroads Wine & Spirits, 611 24 Road, opened locations near the intersection last year, and a City Market store is being built between F and F 1/2 Road along 24 Road.
