Group seeking to ban MMJ centers in Palisade

A citizens’ group plans to circulate a petition seeking to ban medical marijuana centers in Palisade, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Mesa County and the city of Grand Junction.

Diane Cox with Safe and Health Mesa County told The Daily Sentinel this afternoon she has asked an attorney to draft a petition that would ask voters whether they want to prohibit medical marijuana centers from operating within Palisade town limits. It wasn’t immediately clear how many signatures would be needed to place a question on the ballot or when an election might be held.

If approved, the ban would close Colorado Alternative Health Care, the only medical marijuana center currently operating in Mesa County.

The announcement of the initiative from Safe and Health Mesa County comes a week after voters banned medical marijuana centers in the city of Grand Junction and five months after they did the same in unincorporated Mesa County.
