Hannigan latest Palisade champ since 2003

No. 3 ranked Dalton Hannigan, a Palisade High School junior, 42-3, defeated Bobby Amond, of Cheyenne Mountain, 12-4. Amond, a senior with a 33-7 record was ranked No. 2 by On the Mat.

Hannigan, a three-time state qualifier had never placed at the state tournament. Amond, was fourth as a sophomore and lost the 126-pound title match a year ago.

Hannigan defeated No. 1 ranked Ian Wingstrom of Fort Morgan, in last night’s semifinals, 5-4.

The last Palisade wrestler to win a state title was Travis Bounds in 2003.

The tournament concludes this evening in Denver at the Pepsi Center.
