Fundraiser slated for mom with tumor

A fundraiser lunch will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at Texas Roadhouse.

The lunch will benefit Salina Ritchie, a Grand Junction mother of three who was diagnosed with her second cancerous brain tumor in November and had emergency surgery in Denver in December. The money raised from the lunch will benefit the Donations Account for Salina Ritchie, an account at Wells Fargo that will help pay her medical bills.

Tickets to the lunch are $10. No Outlet will play music. Pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, Caesar salad and beverages will be served.

Flu shot clinic set Wednesday at VA

 

High demand for flu vaccinations has spurred the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center at 2121 North Ave. to host a special drive-through flu shot clinic from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the medical center.

Veterans will need to provide proof of military service or a VA patient identification card in order to get a free flu shot. Shots will be administered in the covered drop-off drive in front of the medical center’s main lobby entrance. People do not have to leave their cars to get a shot in the drive-through, which is designed for people who have trouble walking or standing but is open to all veterans.

Gluten Free Grand Valley to meet

 

The next monthly meeting of Gluten Free Grand Valley will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Goodwill Industries Community Room, 630 24 1/2 Road.

The group is for community members on a gluten-free diet for medical or personal reasons or people considering a gluten-free diet. Dr. Greg Haitz, a chiropractor at Rimrock Chiropractic, will speak at the February meeting about why gluten intolerance is on the rise. Baked goods from Sugar Rush, a New Castle bakery, will be available for sampling at the meeting.

Crossroads hosting weight loss challenge

 

Crossroads Fitness, 2768 Compass Drive and 225 N. Fifth St., is registering gym members for a 90-Day weight loss challenge through Feb. 14.

Before and after photos, measurements and weight will be taken for each participant and every challenger has access to support, guidance and education throughout the challenge. A male and a female winner will be chosen at the end of 90 days.

Cool Clinical Event planned Wednesday

 

Le MedSpa, 2530 N. Eighth St., Suite 205, will host a Cool Clinical Event throughout the day Wednesday at its office.

People can come to the event for a complimentary private consultation, refreshments and special pricing on CoolSculpting, a cosmetic procedure that freezes fat. A limited number of consultation appointments are available. Call 256-SKIN (7546) to make a reservation.

Hearing loss meeting will be Saturday

 

The monthly meeting of the Hearing Loss Association of America Western Colorado Chapter will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Center for Independence, 740 Gunnison Ave.

Assist2Hear Founder and Owner Laura Hansen will speak about hearing loops at February’s meeting. Induction loop systems reduce background noise and help people hear sounds more clearly.
