Help a teen, win a trip

Michael Ruble hopes to play football in The Down Under Bowl this summer.

Michael Ruble, a Central High School senior football player, would like to play football in Australia this summer, but he needs a little financial help to get there.

Ruble was invited to play in The DownUnder Bowl, an annual American football competition in Gold Coast, a city in Queensland, Australia. Hundreds of American coaches, officials, players and cheerleaders flock to Australia each summer to play in the largest football tournament held outside of the U.S.

“They are trying to make American football popular down there,” Ruble said, “It’s sort of like a festivity.”

Ruble is looking forward to the experience, especially getting a chance to see all the different animals Australia counts. The trip also includes a stop in Hawaii with a tour of Pearl Harbor.

So far Ruble has been given $1,300 for the trip by friends and family. The total cost of the trip is $4,500. Anyone who donates money will receive raffle tickets for the chance to win a 10-day all-inclusive trip to Australia.

Donations can be sent to 3168 Pelton Drive, Grand Junction 81504 or by calling 589-5413.
