Homeless pair held in robbery

Two teenagers were ordered held Tuesday on $60,000 bond after their arrests on allegations they robbed a man at gunpoint at an Orchard Mesa park and brandished a gun at another person nearby.

Dustin Jay Dees, 19, and Samantha Ann Hanson, 19, both listed in jail booking records as homeless, were arrested Monday night after the vehicle they were riding in was stopped by officers near F Road and Entrada Street in Fruitvale.

According to an arrest affidavit, three people, including the boy reporting the robbery, positively identified Hanson as the woman who pointed a handgun at a group of teenagers walking near Dixon Park, 287 27 Road, before leaving with the boy’s cell phone and a knife.

A group of five juveniles told police they were approached by two people in a white car around 8 p.m. Monday, when a woman in the passenger seat asked a boy if he had any change, the affidavit said.

“(Boy) told her he didn’t have any change and began to walk away,” the affidavit said.

The driver lurched the car forward and turned it in front of the boy, who was robbed by the woman in the passenger seat, the affidavit alleges. The car then sped away.

The affidavit said when officers went to nearby Eagle Rim Park to search for the suspects, they found a woman who reported two people had just threatened others with a handgun. The woman provided a license-plate number, which matched a car registered to Dees that was similar to the vehicle used in the first incident.

Officers alleged in the affidavit that Hanson tried to run from them in Fruitvale as they tried to place her in handcuffs.

A .45-caliber handgun, with one round in the chamber, was found under the passenger’s seat of the car that Dees and Hanson were riding in, the affidavit said.

Both were jailed on suspicion of aggravated robbery, menacing and misdemeanor theft.
