Fruita Middle School and Mount Garfield Middle School students tackle school policies and other societal issues.

Homework hard to do without teacher’s help

I don’t like homework. I wish it were about a 10-minute assignment. Sometimes it is hard to do it without the teacher. Sometimes we can’t think at home, and at school we just think about doing work in class and talking during passing period. We should only have a little bit of homework, and perhaps have time to do it in class, because we need help.

Think before drinking and driving

Driving after drinking is seriously irresponsible. Drunken drivers can injure themselves and others. Buses and taxis, or maybe even friends or family, should provide transportation from bars and parties. If that happened, there would be fewer accidents. Drunken people could make better decisions on how to get home. If you drink, don’t drive. Make sure you can get home safely without getting into the driver’s seat.

Rover shouldn’t rove unleashed

Until the county makes a law, it puts great stress on many people when dogs aren’t on leashes. First of all, people need to learn to respect other’s property, and that’s just one step to making everyone happier. Some people need to man up and take their dogs on walks with leashes, so things don’t get out of hand. People hate it when a trespasser leaves a present for them to clean up in their yard. When people go on short walks to get to open range, it would be nice to know where their dog is and that it’s not causing harm. Clearly, it is obvious that dog on walks should be on leashes while in rural areas because of trespassing.

Partial birth abortion is murder

I think that partial birth abortion is sick. In partial birth abortion the doctor performing the abortion pulls all of the baby’s body out except for the head. Then they take a sharp object, like scissors, and stab the baby in the head. They murder the baby! I think we should make partial birth abortion illegal. If we stop this murder and the mother of the baby doesn’t want the baby, she can make another family happy by putting it up for adoption. She shouldn’t kill the baby. Who knows, that baby could have grown up and been president. Our state senators should step up and stop this murder by making a law against it.

Fewer school rules would mean more fun, less trouble

If there were not so many rules to follow at school, school would more fun. Students wouldn’t have to worry about getting into trouble all the time. Some rules are fine, but when there is a rule for pretty much everything, it is not fun to go to school. Truly, I think that school rules should be cut down to a minimum so students wouldn’t get into trouble so much.
