Hospital bolsters cardiac care program
Community Hospital this month contracted with a 10-physician team from Western Slope Cardiology.
That means patients can get cardiac consultations and care at the hospital instead of being transferred out.
“The big difference is we’ll have them here in house every day,” hospital President Chris Thomas said of the cardiologists. “If doctors have a patient with cardiac problems, in the past they were transported to St. Mary’s (Hospital). Now the doctors are here and readily available.”
Thomas said the new arrangement is one answer to a physician survey in which doctors requested more coverage from a variety of specialists at the hospital.
Cardiac consultations will be offered weekdays, and physicians can contact the cardiologists after hours to either come down to the hospital or consult by phone.
The agreement also provides education for staff and further cardiology services for patients such as cardiac nuclear medicine and echocardiography.
