Hotchkiss students hope to change bulbs

Sixth-graders at Hotchkiss K–8 School want to raise $80,000 to replace the school’s fluorescent light bulbs with energy-efficient ones. Students began working on the project in November and plan to enter the idea Wednesday in the Disney Planet Challenge. The theme park, movie and television giant is accepting ideas from elementary and middle school students across the country and will award grant funding for the four environmentally friendly best ideas.

Students hope through the switch to save the school district at least $1,000 a month in utilities costs. For information, contact the school at 872-3325 or 465 Lorah Lane, Hotchkiss 81419.
