A Grand Junction firefighter sustained minor injuries when a ceiling collapsed during a fire Friday at an Orchard Mesa home.

The firefighter was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

A passing motorist saw flames coming from the roof and called in the blaze at 2911 Jon Hall Drive. The fire occurred shortly before 1 p.m.

The home’s exterior, an attic and one bedroom burned. The home sustained heavy smoke damage.

The cause of the fire and damage estimates were unknown Friday, according to Fire Department spokesman Mike Page.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Its residents were able to stay with other family members, Page said.
