Human Services head leaving county

The head of the Mesa County Department of Human Services is leaving his post after what was termed a mutual agreement between him and the county commissioners.

Len Stewart, who has headed the department for more than three years, will remain on the job through this week and his last day will be Monday, county spokeswoman Jessica Peterson said.

The commissioners were “very appreciative” of Stewart’s work at the department, Peterson said.

“We’ve been very happy with Len Stewart,” Commissioner Steve Acquafresca said Tuesday.

The commission, however, had been discussing budget cuts with Stewart and there were concerns “about his ability to assimilate the directive” from the commissioners, Acquafresca said.
