CANON CITY — Hundreds of Colorado correctional officers are remembering a co-worker who lost her life while on duty.

Officials added the name of Sgt. Mary K. Ricard to The Fallen Officer Memorial at Territorial Correctional Facility with a ceremony in Canon City on Thursday.

Ricard was killed Sept. 24 in an assault that occurred while breakfast was being prepared at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility. Sgt. Lori Gann was seriously injured.

Miguel Alonso Contreras-Perez, who was serving 35 years to life for kidnapping and sexual assault, has been named a person of interest in the assault.
