Hunter’s shooting death ruled accidental
A Crawford man who was guiding a group of hunters was shot in the head and killed Tuesday after a member of the hunting party had dropped his rifle, causing it to discharge, authorities said.
The death of James Ayer, 56, has been ruled accidental, Montrose Coroner Dr. Thomas Canfield said.
Montrose authorities were called around 11 a.m. Tuesday about an injured hunter near Gould Reservoir, and received a second call roughly 40 minutes later explaining the hunter had died.
