I-70 rollover injures 3

Three people were sent to the hospital following a rollover accident early Sunday morning.

Colorado State Trooper Matt Jakopic said John Polen was driving when a truck rolled one and a half times around 1:45 a.m. near mile marker 33 on Interstate 70. A female passenger, a male passenger and Polen were all transported to St. Mary’s Hospital.

Polen was at the hospital as of 5 p.m. Sunday and in fair condition, according to a St. Mary’s representative.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, Jakopic said. He said Polen was driving west on the interstate when the vehicle went off the right side of the road. Polen overcorrected and rolled the truck, which came to rest partially on an eastbound lane of the interstate.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, he said.

Jakopic said Polen was being investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular assault and careless driving causing injury.
