Inside the delay

We dislike using that hoary excuse, “technical difficulties,” to explain why a substantial number of readers didn’t receive their copies of The Daily Sentinel until late Wednesday morning. But in this case, it is entirely appropriate.

An inserter — a piece of equipment that automatically places advertising inserts and other printed material within the folds of the Sentinel — wasn’t working correctly.

Crews had to insert by hand 16,000 copies of the newspaper, including six different supplements for Wednesday’s edition of The Daily Sentinel. This applied to papers going to 17 different delivery zones.

The hand inserting wasn’t completed until after 6:15 Wednesday morning, when the last of the delivery trucks rolled out of The Daily Sentinel parking lot.
