Korkowski after Curry’s District 61 House seat

LOVELAND —  Luke Korkowski, a Crested Butte attorney who last year launched a bid for the U.S. Senate only to abandon it as heavyweight Republicans Ken Buck and Jane Norton moved in, is taking aim at a different target: the state Legislature.

Korkowski wants the House District 61 seat Kathleen Curry occupies as the Legislature’s only unaffiliated member.

Curry has filed suit to get her name on the general-election ballot. Otherwise, she will have to run as a write-in candidate.

Korkowski, however, has no such impediments on his way to the ballot.

He introduced himself to Republicans as the party’s candidate for the House seat during the 3rd Congressional District assembly on Friday.

Curry dropped her Democrat affiliation in January, and Korkowski decided to run for the post in February, he said.

Curry should have been clear with her constituents about her plans to drop out of the Democratic Party, Korkowski said.

“If you represent a district, you at least owe them predictability,” he said.

An attorney who represents businesses, Korkowski said he would stress the need to improve the economy and tell voters he “will vote to bring jobs back to the district.”
