Last farmers market at CMU this evening
Lovers of vegetables, local products and live music will have one more chance to soak in the atmosphere of the downtown Grand Junction farmers market this year — except for the first time, the downtown vibe is coming to Colorado Mesa University.
The bonus farmers market, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the CMU plaza, is a combined effort between the university’s student government and the Downtown Grand Junction Business Improvement District, said Executive Director Allison Blevins.
“One of our long term goals is to connect more students to downtown,” she said. “Most of the vendors are pretty excited about it.”
CMU Associated Student Government President Ben Linzey said student leaders want to create more unity between the campus and the community.
“We really wanted to try to find ways we could bring people onto campus,” he said. “CMU is definitely growing into being a large aspect of the community. We’re still working our way into the community, and the more and more we can have people on campus and appreciate what we can do for the community … will help us bridge that relationship with the community and the university.”
The farmers market will not be as big as the regular downtown event but will still feature favorites such as fresh produce, face painting and live performances, Blevins said.
There will also be a significant number of university clubs and organizations represented, she said.
Free event parking is available at the parking garage on 12th Street or in any commuter parking lot.
