Lawman’s family offers thanks

The family of the Grand County, Utah, lawman shot on Friday in a gunfight thanked the law enforcement and medical teams that helped him, as well as the mother of the man believed responsible for the shooting.

The family of Ranger Brody Young issued a statement on Monday offering thanks to the mother of the suspect “for coming forward with essential information to aid the authorities.”

Search teams are combing the desert in search of the man suspected in the shooting, Lance Leeroy Arellano.

The ranger, Brody Young, 34, remains in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was shot several times in a confrontation during a traffic stop.

A spokeswoman for the Utah State Parks and Recreation Department said it will be some time before Young is able to speak.

Arellano has not been found, but searchers have recovered his car, a rifle and a bloody shirt.
