Legislature this week: March 21, 2011
Lawmakers will work on moving as many bills as they can through the Legislature this week in an effort to clear their calendar for next week’s discussions about the state budget, which is to be introduced in the Senate on Friday.
Today: The Senate Business, Labor & Technology Committee will hear a bill that would allow movie-goers to donate money to a fund designed to offer rebates to film producers as an incentive to film in the state.
Tuesday: A measure to allow all gun owners to conceal their weapons will be heard in the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee.
Wednesday: The Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee will consider a measure to return the state’s late-vehicle registration fee to $10.
Thursday: The Senate Education Committee will hold hearings on the potential impacts of a proposed $332 million cut to public schools.
Friday: The Joint Budget Committee is to finalize its proposed 2011–12 state budget, and introduce it into the Senate.
Next week: Senators will haggle over the state budget, including spending a couple of days making tweaks to it.
