Library board getting close to its $1.25M fundraising goal
The Mesa County Public Library Foundation is within $10,000 of its $1.25 million fundraising goal for the newly renovated central library.
The new look of the library at 443 N. Sixth St. was unveiled June 20 at a re-opening celebration. But funding is still needed to pay for the $7.1 million project, which added 9,000 square feet to the now-45,000-square-foot library and added a second-story balcony, expanded sections and meeting rooms and created outdoor seating areas for readers.
Foundation Development Director Lois Becker said checks are still expected for the project.
But other, unfinished projects, such as the Avalon Theatre expansion and the next phase of St. Mary’s Hospital’s Century Project, may divert attention from the completed library.
Still, the library project being done and hopefully enjoyed by a potential donor “can compel some people to donate,” Becker said.
Nov. 1 is the deadline for the foundation’s fundraising efforts. To donate, call Becker at 683-2438 or download and print a donation form at mesacountylibraries.org/support-us/foundation and mail it to Mesa County Public Library Foundation, P.O. Box 3668, Grand Junction 81502.
